Answers

What does Cru stand for?

Well, some people think we are the Texas State Rowing Team (which might be understandable if Texas State had a Rowing Team). Some people think CRU is an acronym that stands for something like Christians Rarely Understood.   Some have thought we were a fraternity like ATO or TKE. None of those are correct (but the last one is kind of cool.) Cru is simply part of a word in Campus Crusade for Christ. Campus Crusade, often known as Cru on most campuses, is an organization that has been dedicated for over 55 years to helping introduce college students to Jesus Christ and to help them grow in their relationship with him. You can go to Campus Crusade for Christ’s website here.

Is Texas State Cru connected with any particular denomination?

Texas State Cru is part of Campus Crusade for Christ. Campus Crusade is an international, interdenominational, Christian, student organization. Whew, that’s a mouth-full. In the words of that great theologian M.C. Hammer, “Let’s break it down”.   International – Local Campus Crusade student organizations can be found on nearly every university across the United States and at most campuses around the world.  Interdenominational – Campus Crusade is not affiliated with any church denomination.  Christian – Campus Crusade holds to traditional Christian doctrines that are derived from the Bible. You can read Campus Crusade’s statement of faith here.

What are Cru Staff?

This might sound like an infection of some sort, but actually the Cru Staff are full-time ministry workers that are dedicated to serving and caring for the students involved with Cru.  The Cru staff team at Texas State consists of 5 people that have a combined 43 years of experience with Campus Crusade and collegiate ministry.  The staff team provides guidance, leadership development, resources, mentoring, teaching, and other facets that help give stability and safeguard to the student movement. All in all, they’re pretty cool.  You can meet these old people, I mean, Cru people here.  Also, you are welcome to drop by the cru office anytime.

How does a student become a member of Cru?

Just show up!  Cru does not require any dues and there is no official membership.  A student can become as involved as he/she likes.  Obviously a student will become more connected into relationships by getting into a 242 Group or Journey than just coming out to the Thursday Night Cru meetings.
